Amanda and Nick were here for the weekend too. Thankfully we are also all on the mend from last weeks cold and flu epidemic.

we're singing the influenza blues

Well since Friday, we have had the flu here at our house.... and still do. John brought it home from work and he had the worst case so far. He is still suffering with a horrible cough and no energy and generally not feeling good. Then Kassidy and Desi got it. It looks like they will be able to go to school tomorrow, though. Yay! They didn't have as bad of a time as John. We gave them some oscillococooinum. It's expensive, but it's over the counter and safe for kids. It seemed to help. Now we are just hoping and praying that Lindzi, Brooklyn, Chris or I don't get it too! My only hope is that Lindzi got the flu shot this year at her one year old check up... let's hope that works for her. Chris is hardly home, so he's fairly safe. It's just Brooklyn and I that are scared like no other. Anyway we'll survive it one way or another.

The Temple Tour

We toured the Temple yesterday. It was so beautiful. We loved all the sparkling chandeliers. I'm so glad that John was able to come with us because Lindzi is such a handful these days. She just wants to get down and run! So at the end of the tour where they have you sit and listen for a few minutes Lindzi just wanted to run away... John ended up taking her out of the room. (This is how our sacrament meetings have been lately... Desi chasing down Lindzi.) It was nice for the girls to see the temple. It was so windy up there on the hill. Thank goodness they had such a nice set up of tent like walk ways so we didn't get cold. Afterward we went out for dinner which the girls loved.

Our "New" Durango

Well, we have been having some problems with our mini van lately. The other day while in Layton, our main belt broke. Which is a bad problem. It makes it so that the water pump doesn't work and the steering is way hard. So you can only drive a few feet before it starts to get too hot and may over heat. So we inched our way to a parts store and got a new belt which John put on in the parking lot after a lot of struggle. Only to have that belt broken by the next day!! Well come to find out, there's a bracket back in there that keeps the pulley thing aligned correctly and it was out of whack. So it was shredding the belts. It's going to be a painful job, involving a lot of taking apart of things. So we decided to go car shopping, and then John can fix the van later than sooner. We looked at quite a few mini vans, but they were all too pricey to get any decent upgrades and low - ish miles. So we ended up test driving a durango and really liking it and the price, which was nearly half of what they wanted for a nice mini van. It's kind of funny that our neighbors down the street just got a new suburban and were selling their Durango. I spoke to my friend/neighbor and we looked at thiers and loved it. Her husband is the kind of guy that keeps their vehicles in very nice condition. So it seems almost new to us, even though it is a 2003. It also has fairly low miles for it's age.. about 63,000. So we are quite happy about it. It is smaller than a mini van inside, but the kids will survive it. It still seats seven though and that's what counts.

Mmmmm homemade bread

Well for a couple of months now, we have been enjoying homemade bread. John decided that we needed to learn to make our own bread. He also had a pet peeve of the bread store people grabbing the bread in the middle and squeezing as they threw it in the bag. Anyway, since we got a wheat grinder for Christmas (thanks Mom and Dad) we have been making half white flour and half freshly ground wheat flour homemade bread. It is delicious! John is the chief bread maker here. He makes and kneads the dough and then I shape it, let it rise and bake it. It works out wonderfully. It's always so delicious right after it comes out of the oven... yummy!

Lindzi spells trouble with a capital T

Lindzi has recently discovered the fireplace. She hasn't really taken an interest in it before. She is very quick and will have her hands black in a split second. We don't ever use it, but of course it is very black and sooty in there. It is very intriguing to her much to my frustration.

Kassidy loses her 2nd tooth

Yay her second tooth is gone! Thank goodness because her permanent teeth were already starting to grow. They were coming up behind her baby teeth. I called the dentist to see if they needed to be pulled, but they said that it would be fine to have them come out on their own. And now they have!

Jaylon visits

Debbie's son Jaylon (11) came for a visit on February 16th. Jaylon's dad lives here in Ogden so that's what brought him here. We all had a lot of fun. The kids played games and then we had pizza for lunch. Afterwards Grandpa and Grandma Shaw took the kids sledding. Lindzi was napping so I stayed home. Soon after Brenda and Jonas came over to hang out and say hi to Jaylon. Jaylon is sure growing up, he is a great kid! Enjoy the slide show of the sledding below!

Kassidy-isms

Well Kassidy is at an age where she says a lot of funny/cute things. Most of the time i forget about them, but today she said two funny things so I thought I'd share. This morning as i was fixing her hair, she looked at herself in the mirror and said "I look hot!" I just laughed at that. Then she asked me if I knew what that means. And I said "yes I do, but what do you think it means?" She said, "It means that you are beautiful." It made me smile.

Then this afternoon as I was editing photos and trying to take the red eye out of the pictures. I made the comment that everyone except cousin Jaylon had red eye. I said that people with dark eyes seemed to get less red eye than others. Kassidy asked me why that was so and I said, "I don't know why." Then she said, "Mom, you should know everything BY NOW!" I guess by my elderly age of 34, I should know EVERYTHING. Ah well I'll just enjoy her thinking that for now, because soon, I'm sure, she won't think I know ANYTHING. :)
